My e-portfolio Something about Me! Hello everyone! This is Yash Gandhi, a faithful student of Diploma Program year 1, of Choithram International, Indore (Madhya Pradesh, India). I am not clear as for what I want to become in the future. I am a very creative person, and I am thinking into going for a career that requires lots of creativity such as becoming an artist. Also, I would like to become a successful businessman; this is why I have opted for Business and Management, and Economics as part of my IB-DP subjects. I am divided into these two areas. Which one will I opt for once the Diploma Programme is over? No one knows, but I hope that I will get the answer to this question through the course.
My beliefs: In such a huge world everyone has different beliefs. Every individual has his/her own beliefs. If one believes this so the other believes that. Same like that, I believe that ‘what we do, it gets reflect back to us’. If you respect others, you will get respect and if you hate others you will get hate in return. For example, if today you help your friend in school with his homework, if one day you need help doing your homework, I am sure that he/she will help you on it, since when they were in need, you helped. This is how the world runs. If you do good things, only good will comes in return, this is why I do my best to what’s good. This includes helping people, being honest, being respectful, etc. Therefore, do whatever you want to do, but do something which will not only be good for you, but it will also be good for others. Try doing things that will make everyone happy. If you make everyone happy, you can achieve everything in your life.
What is TOK for me? TOK, or we can say Theory Of Knowledge, is an excellent subject provided by IB (International Baccalaureate). In this subject, what we just have to do is to keep every other thing, such as personal conflicts, or issues, out of the room, and just listen carefully to the discussion that is going on. Also, TOK wants us to be part of this conversation; it wants us to explore more and more ideas by interacting more and more. This is done because we are exposed to many viewpoints from different people, and hence, we can make out a conclusion of our own. This way, TOK is very important, because it develops our listening skills (when we listen to others’ points), develops our communication skills (when we are speaking our ideas, and trying to convince/persuade others that our idea is correct) and also decision making skills (when you combine everything, in order to draw up a conclusion). This class is giving us the opportunity to develop these skills which are so important in our future lives. These skills will determine how successful we will be in the future. They will be what will differ us from other people, because the theories and information is everywhere, any individual can have access to it, and learn it, but how you process this information, and how you present it to other people will be the determining factor of whether you are more competent than other people. These skills which are being developed in TOK classes will play a major role when we start looking for jobs, where we have to show the companies that we have something “extra”, which our competitors don’t have.
